SaaS is a Delivery Model, Not a Market
I often get a chuckle out of articles discussing SaaS. Most people, outside of the HCM world, think about SaaS in the context of Salesforce.com. It has certainly had a lot of success, but it has also spawned a lot of stereotypes like:
- SaaS is only for SMBs (we know SaaS is being used in HCM in some of the largest companies)
- SaaS is only for simple, departmental applications (we also know that some of the deepest functionality in HCM world is delivered via SaaS solutions

Good for you, Jim. Sometimes it seems like every equity investor, investment banker and even financial analyst is referring to the "SaaS Market" and looking for the next play. They never seem to ask what functionality is actually being delivered! Just looking for the next Salesforce instead of the next Taleo.

I agree SaaS is not just about Salesforce.com, nor is it just for SMBs. The pace of change with software development is such, that the only way businesses can keep up to date with developments and software houses can keep customers is to use SaaS. Use it well and you will develop a very loyal customer because it will become too difficult to retrain staff whereas with Saas solutions staff training naturally evolves.
